This is an idea that has been a long-time coming. Originally inspired by my former tech idol, Bill Gates for his "Windows" platform, :) I thought about how like Windows, "Doors" also opens up something. In the case of Doors, they open up opportunities for people that they never had before.
This idea was further spawned back in 2000, when I was asked by several teachers at the Middle School where I taught in Arkansas, to help them with their class webpages. They knew absolutely nothing about HTML and wanted me, (the building 'nerd') to help them code it.
This was back when Tech was just hitting big in the public schools thanks to my 2 muses, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs years before this.
In fact, the teachers were terrified because they had SEDL, a huge tech company from Dalls coming to "grade" their websites and see how well they could put together a page within a few weeks. I stayed up at the school until 6 most nights during that time. And you know how it goes...once you make a webpage for one teacher, several more teachers will want you to do theirs too.
I can't say that I coded every line of all of their web pages, but it was pretty close. I never did understand why this big tech firm forgot that (except for me who was obsessed with tech in those days and still am), most teachers don't know (and don't want to know) how to code.
I'm not really a coder myself and came to computers through Radio-TV, filmmaking, and the arts, kinda like Steven Spielberg did when he realized he could make an entire blockbuster film on the desktop! But I had stayed up many hours in the past learning the entire HTML language just so I could put up my Hollywood music that got published and present my video and audio creations to my adoring public!
Suffice it to say, I did a lot of fast coding! We started on a simple platform that the teachers could have done with drag-and-drop, but it was just faster (for me anyway) to code it. So that's what I did.
One idea I implemented during that phase was the idea of going from one door to another that was hotliinked out to another teacher's room. They thought that was so cool that I ended up linking every door to another teacher's door and so on. Kind of like virtual teleporting. LOL.
And that's when the original idea for DOORS was born.
Now, here I am some 22 years later. Steve Jobs has passed into history. Bill Gates is playing medical expert. And I have decided to bring back my idea for an educational modules project I'm doing on Amazon Ignite and other platforms. But you'll only see the "doors" on this site. Those other platforms don't allow too much freedom of design.
I'll explain how the doors will work soon, I promise. Right now it's 3am and I still have to create a wax product for one of my other businesses.
Check back later as my new site grows. I'm very excited about the possibilities, especially since Melinda Gates liked a comment I posted on Facebook the other day and I'm sure she is anxious to see my latest creation. ;)
